Description
This workshop provides an introduction to open access (OA) in scholarly article publishing. Various options for open access will be presented, including: (1) understanding a journal’s policies on self-archiving (2) understanding copyright transfer to journal publishers, (3) considering OA journals, and (4) making published articles OA though deposit to an OA repository (NCDOCKS).
Objectives
- Understand the importance of knowing a journal’s policies regarding authors’ rights to reuse and/or archive their own work as well as the implications of signing copyright transfer to a journal publisher after an article has been accepted;
- Understand the value of publishing in an open-access journal and how to better select a quality one and avoid disreputable ones;
- Understand the value of making published articles open access through deposit to an OA repository such as ASU’s NCDOCKS and how to do that.
