What’s Weight Got to do with It: The Fat Talk Phenomenon
with Drs. Doris Bazzini, Lisa Curtin and Denise Martz

Date:	December 4th
Time: 12 p.m - 1 p.m.
Place: Belk Library, Room 421
Cost:	FREE!

Have you ever uttered the words, “Do I look fat in this?” or “I feel so fat today?” Join Drs. Bazzini, Curtin and Martz, all from the Department of Psychology, for an informative presentation on a cultural phenomenon termed “Fat Talk,” which pressures women to say disparaging things about their bodies. They will share the results of several studies that have assessed whether women and men perceive “Fat Talk” as normative and whether there is competing pressure for women (of varying shapes and sizes) to accept themselves as they are. Discuss the current battle between accepting oneself and fulfilling society’s expectation to dislike one’s body.

Bring a bag lunch and join us for an informative lunch hour!
Coffee and dessert will be provided.
