Description
In this workshop we look at designing a classroom technology policy that fits your teaching context, values, and students. Drawing on recent research on distraction and academic performance and our own recent experiences, we'll explore how faculty are responding to issues surrounding phone, tablet, and laptop use in class. Strategies range widely, from phone parking zones and scheduled device breaks to laptop seating agreements and student-authored class compacts. What have you tried? What has worked best?
The workshop concludes with a focused drafting sprint in which participants write their own policy statement. The goal of this workshop is to review the options, briefly explore their pros and cons, and develop a working draft of a policy for your next class.
