Description
This workshop will assist First Year Seminar faculty in refining their course syllabus using a learning centered model. Learning centered syllabi are intentionally crafted to clarify course expectations, learning outcomes, and processes that support academic success.
This workshop will specifically address ways to include the common expectations and learning outcomes for First Year Seminar. Methods for preparing the syllabus for web publication will be presented and a peer review process will allow for feedback and refinement before the syllabus is formally submitted for publication.
Faculty should bring a copy of their current FYS syllabus to the workshop. Laptops encouraged.
Objectives
- Create a learning centered syllabus to guide your First Year Seminar students towards a successful learning experience
- Articulate the First Year Seminar Learning Outcomes and Common Course Expectations within your syllabus
- Create a web ready syllabus for Peer Review and feedback
- Refine the syllabus and format for publication on the web.
- Submit the finalize syllabus within 30 days of the workshop.
- Explore the advantages of a graphic syllabus
