Any class that does not have at least 2 people pre-registered by 5 pm the day before the class WILL BE CANCELLED.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: New employees and re-assigned/transferred employees whose job duties will require them to contact (but not disturb) asbestos-containing materials (ACM). Some examples of types of employees who are required to take this course:
- Housekeepers and their supervisors.
- Floor maintenance staff.
- Skilled tradespersons.
- Operations and Maintenance staff.
(NOTE: Employees whose jobs require them to disturb/ damage asbestos-containing materials are required to take a 16-hour course; contact cavanaughmm@appstate.edu for more information).
COURSE OVERVIEW: This course is required by OSHA for employees whose jobs may cause them to contact asbestos-containing materials (ACM).
This course will help employees understand the myths and facts about ACM. It will also teach them how to recognize and avoid disturbing such materials, and what to do if they discover damaged ACM.
This course is required as part of OSHA's asbestos regulations (29 CFR 1910.1001 and 1926.1101).
Objectives
- This training course has three key objectives:
- Make employees aware of where and how they may contact asbestos-containing materials (ACM);
- Ensure employees know how NOT to damage or disturb ACM (and what to do if they discover disturbed ACM); and
- Meet OSHA's training requirements for Asbestos Awareness, as contained in 29 CFR 1910.1001 and 1926.1101.
Prerequisites
- HAZCOM101 recommended but not required.
- To take ASBAWARE101, you should have job duties that require you to contact (but not disturb) asbestos-containing materials.
- ***Pre-registration by 5 pm the night before the class is required. If fewer than 2 people have registered by 5 pm the night before class, the class will be cancelled.***
