Description
THIS IS A COMBINED INITIAL and ANNUAL REFRESHER workshop for personnel (including faculty & graduate students) who have potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens AND who work with or around needles or other sharps.
This workshop is designed to provide a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of their transmission, methods of preventing transmission, and other pertinent information.
Attendees who successfully complete this course will meet the requirements of:
- The N.C. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (NCOSHA) Bloodborne Pathogen Standard; and
- The ASU Exposure Control Plan.

Objectives
- Describe the types of diseases which can be transmitted through bloodborne pathogens.
- Recall the symptoms of bloodborne diseases.
- Know the major occupational risk factors for contracting a bloodborne disease.
- Know how bloodborne pathogens can be transmitted in the workplace.
- Demonstrate work practices, PPE, and labeling to prevent infection with bloodborne pathogens in the workplace.
- Describe what to do if exposed to bloodborne pathogens.
- Know where, when, and how to obtain optional Hepatitis B vaccination.

- None, but online pre-registration is required.
