Description

Team-Based Learning is an evidence based collaborative learning teaching strategy designed around units of instruction, known as “modules,” that are taught in a three-step cycle: preparation, in-class readiness assurance testing, and application-focused exercise. A course will typically cover 4 - 5 modules in one semester.

This learning community will extend the entire academic year, with the fall semester focusing on what Team-Based Learning (TBL) is and how it can be used to create collaborative, active learning in the classroom. In the spring, participants will work on developing a TBL module that they will then use the following year in their course. Team-Based Learning is best administered when faculty are working collaboratively and can vet ideas with one another. Both the fall and spring sessions will utilize TBL practices to teach participants about TBL.

If you are looking for a fun, engaging way to promote deep learning and soft skills in your course, I encourage you to check out "Introduction to Team-Based Learning."

Module 1: Fundamentals of TBL Module 2: Creating an Effective TBL Module Module 3: Evaluating Multiple Choice Questions for RATs and Application Activities Module 4: Improving Facilitation Skills for TBL Module 5: Peer Evaluation and Team Development

Participants will receive a copy of "Getting Started with Team-Based Learning" by Sibley/Ostafichuk
