Description
“Writing has a unique ability to develop the interior life of the writer.” Dee Fink
We all have a story to tell, but stories of the journeys that brought international faculty, staff, and students to Appalachian will include nuances and complexities that make their stories unique from those of their American peers. Capturing stories in writing and sharing them with others can connect generations, build community, bridge diversity, promote self-reflection and understanding, and enhance personal satisfaction as the writer integrates the most meaningful moments of their life’s journey into their present self and their goals for the future. Using the methods of guided autobiography, participants in this structured writing workshop will explore through reflection and writing the meaningful events that led them to App State. Those who are comfortable doing so will be invited to share their stories in the oral tradition with the group. The final 30 minutes of the workshop will take the form of additional quiet writing time for those who would like to continue.
