Description

Local Issue Coffee Hours are an opportunity for faculty and nonprofit community partners to come together in a relaxed environment to consider future collaborations. Topics are typically focused on a single issue such as affordable housing, the needs of the elderly, nutrition needs among area youth, etc. The agenda is light and the mood is informal but the hope is that, as smart people gather in the same room, they'll form new ideas and productive partnerships. Faculty can find ways to connect their students to local needs via service-learning and nonprofit leaders can offer themselves as a resource to faculty. A light breakfast is served.

This Local Issues Coffee Hour is for faculty and nonprofit leaders interested or involved in ways to engage in service-learning virtually or online. Many agencies have online needs or, students can connect with communities far beyond Boone while many faculty would like the option of having students participate in service virtually. This gathering will generate such ideas and connections.
