Description

Oral exams have a long history as an assessment of learning, but are not used often in undergraduate education currently. However, oral exams provide an opportunity for students to develop critical thinking skills and dive deeper into their understanding of material through conversation. This workshop is designed for faculty members interested in incorporating oral exams into their courses. Drawing on recent research and practical experiences, this workshop will provide an overview of the challenges and benefits of oral exams, along with strategies for implementation.

Objectives

  • Explore the benefits of oral exams, such as improved academic integrity, enhanced communication skills, and deeper student-instructor connections.
  • Develop strategies to support students in overcoming the challenges of oral exams and adapting their study habits.
