Description

Based on a three-year data cycle from the COACHE survey, Kiernan Mathews’ “Perspectives on Midcareer Faculty” reveals that increased teaching, research, and service expectations after tenure are “. . . heavier on women . . . who, given their fewer numbers at this rank (in many disciplines), are asked to serve more, advise more, show up more—and not just for their department and the university, but for their discipline . . .“

The purpose of this workshop is to provide a network of support for mid-career academic women. This group will identify issues mid-career women face at ASU and discuss strategies to deal with specific issues of the group as well as systemic issues that impact women.

After the face-to-face meeting, the group will decide how to continue the support network (more f2f meetings, Zoom meetings, monthly check-ins, other online spaces for information sharing/support/mentoring, etc.)

Facilitator: Dr. Reeves Shulstad, Hayes School of Music; Mid-Career Faculty Programming, Center for Academic Excellence
